When we get the opportunity to do an engagement session with our couples, we feel that gives us an early look into your wedding day! We personally get to know how the two of you behave in front of a camera and not to mention, we get to watch you interact with each other. Of course, we're not always able to do an engagement shoot with all of our couples. On those wedding days, it's always kind of exciting for us because we don't really know what we're going into. Most of the time, we've never met the groom and have only met the bride a few times over coffee. It can make us a little nervous sometimes, but as soon as we walked into The Sonnet House on this day, there was none of that! Kim was her usual super cool self (we've been so jealous of her calm and relaxed demeanor since the moment we met her!) Her girls were casually lounging around in their beautiful robes while Danielle was glamming everyone up. We really enjoy a slow getting ready process, especially if it's in a bridal suite as gorgeous as The Sonnet House!
Kim and Dan ended up moving to Minnesota mid-wedding planning for Dan's residency. If these two lived here, they would be forced into friendship with us. So lucky for them, they're 900 miles away from Birmingham! :) We see a lot of sweet things in our job. We see a lot of romance and a lot of beautiful relationships. It's the ones like Kim and Dan, though that remind us why we love what we do. It was evident to us that beneath their love, there was a real friendship between them. They were so comfortable and so natural around each other. There's actually a photo in here that may be one of our favorites of all time. It's on the front porch after Kim and Dan had been playing and twirling around. I was busy changing out film, and Kayci told me later what I had missed. Kim was quietly telling Dan how surprised she was that he continued to tear up throughout their portraits. (They had a super adorable first look complete with unplanned crying!) And Dan responded, "I'm just so overwhelmed with emotion. It's really gotten to me." And then Kim laid her head against his, and they just held each other for a moment, and it's honestly the sweetest thing we've ever seen.
Yes, these two are adorable and perfect, but they also are a freaking ton of fun. With Kim being from New Orleans, Dan really wanted to do a second line (and they also had a lot of Louisiana guests that came to the wedding!) Kim arranged to surprise Dan by doing the second line like he wanted, and he had a BLAST. Originally, it was supposed to storm on their day, but by some miracle, not a single drop landed on The Sonnet House. Guests mingled between the house, chapel, and the beautiful outside courtyard. We loved how everyone was able to travel around the whole property and enjoy the night air. Kim and Dan, we had an amazing day with you and your guests! We're so thankful to have met you and been able to capture your wedding day for y'all. Wishing you guys all the best (and please come back and visit us!)
